SPS Team
Name: Jack Read
Nick name: Ready
Number of years riding downhill (or BMX, Moto, Quads etc): Downhill for four years, started mountain biking almost seven years ago now.
Highlights of your riding career so far: Won the northwest junior championships last year, and already spent one year riding on the SPS which has been one big highlight!
Aims for 2012 season: I’ve put loads of time into my training this winter, I’d love to see it pay off with a top ten result at the nationals or even better, we’ll see. Really want to try out some European races too, I guess to take advantage of being part of the SPS fully you have to do it all.
What’s it like being part of SPS? The most important thing is that it makes everything you do; at home or racing that little bit easier. There are less things on your mind – that lets you really focus on your performance. Being able to just stay chilled in the pits with the rest of the team is so helpful.
What are your first impressions of the Santa Cruz V10? The V10 I rode last year was flawless, it’s just the best downhill bike in the world.
Favourite rider/biggest influence and why? It’s a tough question, you look to Steve for inspiration in riding, training and attitude, he has spent so long at the top of the sport and I think he will be a big influence for many people for years to come. I also have a bunch of friends who are doing well for themselves in a bunch of different sports, which pushes me to do better than them!
Best UK DH track and why? Tough question… Innerleithen matador and a new track I rode recently at Bala are just amazing, can’t wait to try Combe Syd too.
Describe your riding style in three words: Better than Peaty!!! Haha.
