SPS Team

Name: Alex Barker.

Nick name: People just call me Barker.

Number of years riding downhill (or BMX, Moto, Quads etc): I’ve been riding bikes all my life, I got into downhill when I was 13, had a good 2 years then my bike got nicked. That was 2 years ago, now I’m back on the hill!

Highlights of your riding career so far: I’ve not had many big moments, landing Peaty’s drop is up there, although getting onto the SPS has got to be number one.

Aims for 2012 season: Stay on the bike, make no mistakes in race runs. A top 10 finish in junior wouldn’t be bad.

What’s it like being part of SPS? It’s great knowing you’re getting a pro level of support and being part of a team with a specific focus is very motivational. It’s just very relaxed and chilled out, the guys are great, its going to be a good year.

What are your first impressionsof the Santa Cruz V10? I briefly rode Loosedogs Alu V10 a few years back and it still is the smoothest bike I’ve ever ridden, can’t wait to throw my leg over the new carbon version.

Favourite rider/biggest influence and why? Growing up riding bikes in Sheffield all you ever hear about is Steve Peat so he’s been a big inspiration to me, Josh Bender is up there too for making me want to go big and hit anything.

Best UK DH track and why? Every track in Wharncliffe because they’re all sick.

Describe your riding style in three words: Gotta go big.

Any last words: Looking forward to a good season and a good year with the team, bring on 2012!
